When Merril talked about his dream of playing in the NFL all he heard was, that will be too hard, you can’t beat those odds, it’s impossible, and son don’t put all your eggs in one basket! That inspired him to write Find a Way and put it on the top of the wall above all his goals.
Find a Way would become a life-long philosophy that helped him achieve his dream of playing in the NFL, but also has helped him deal with the near loss of his hand as a young boy, the loss of his mother at a young age, overcome severe head trauma and battle and beat cancer. It has also become a parenting tool and helped him realize the magic that exists in all of us!
I have found a way to live a dream and fight to live. I continue to find ways to accomplish and overcome all that challenges me and the goals I want to achieve. I am committed to maximizing my skills and talents by hard work, focus, goals and taking action.
Find A Way is inspiring in that regardless the circumstances or situation Merrill’s philosophy will serve to help you move the issues into a decision. It’s about choices, attitude, and finding understanding, a good book that will allow you to share some difficult moments of Merrill’s life and understand how he simply found a way to go forward living as he believes. Decisions that affect all of us can be more easily managed from the perspective of Find A Way. Humility, boldness, raw courage, faith, preparation, and always introspection.
This was a great read on a quality athlete who surpassed the odds at many points in life, particularly when his life was on the line. This book describes much joy, and also some tearful sorrows. I was a follower of Merril’s career and loved watching him play football. This gave me a new perspective on him and to the depths in of life he experienced.
Merril is a great sports figure who has class and dignity. His book is honest is a very telling story of his life. I really enjoyed learning about him.
